Seahorses have been the subject of many stories and myths. Because of its unusual appearance – like a tiny horse with a curved tail – people have been enchanted with this creature for years. Scientifically known as “hippocampus”, seahorses are actually the only kind of fish that can swim in an upright position. However, since they are not very good swimmers, they tend to die of exhaustion when they encounter rough waters. A seahorse’s average lifespan is from 1-5 years.

It is also interesting to note that though seahorses are carnivorous (they eat planktons and small crustaceans), they have no teeth or stomachs.
